News on Demand - Financial or Otherwise

By Cannon Loughry, Pinnacle Chief Information Officer

Most people have favorite websites they visit each day. But with information overload growing, the daily habit of scanning these sites can waste a lot of time, particularly when only a few sites contain new stories worth reading immediately.

Using a Web standard called RSS (Really Simple Syndication), you can access customized news feeds quickly and easily, without having to scour the Web. Its purpose is to "feed" you information every time a news source, blog or selected website has been updated with new information. Click here for more on how RSS technology can help you manage online financial information and other information of interest to you.

Cannon Loughry heads Pinnacle's information technology area. You can reach him at (615) 849-3322 or by e-mail at cannon.loughry@pnfp.com.

CEOs See Economic Slowdown; Consumers Confident

CEOs at large U.S. companies expect slower economic growth over the next six months, according to a quarterly survey of 109 of the Business Roundtable's 160 member companies.

Its CEO Economic Outlook Index dropped to 82.4 in September, its lowest level in three years. It is important to note, however, that any number higher than 50 indicates economic expansion.

More than 70 percent said they expected their company's sales to rise in the next six months while 29 percent said they expected their company's employment to decline.

Meanwhile, more than 70 percent of the 387 Middle Tennesseans surveyed in the Middle Tennessee State University Office of Consumer Research in September rated the local economy as "good" with only 2 percent rating it as "bad."

The overall consumer confidence index for Middle Tennessee rose to 335, up from 283 in May and 260 in April. Nearly half of respondents expect their personal financial situation to be better six months from now.

Two Pinnacle Clients Make Inc. 500

Two Pinnacle clients are included on the 2006 Inc. 500, an annual list of the nation's fastest-growing private companies released by Inc. magazine.

Investment bank Avondale Partners' three-year growth rate of 434 percent makes it the 20th fastest-growing company in the magazine's financial services category.

Brentwood-based Counsel on Call has made the list three years running. The company, which finds employment for attorneys, comes in at #347.

Congratulations to these on-the-move companies!

"I've heard about new security measures
for online banking. What's Pinnacle doing?"

Clients who use online banking services will soon be required to provide additional identifying information each time they log in, under guidelines issued by federal regulators hoping to stem the rising tide of identity fraud and theft.

While there are many options ranging from smart cards to one-time password tokens to biometrics, by year-end Pinnacle will implement a second tier of authentication involving a screen image selected by the client. If the image you select does not appear on the screen before you enter your password, you will know you are logging onto a site masquerading as Pinnacle's website.

Having several layers of security -- or "multi-factor authentication" -- helps prevent the ability of criminals to defraud customers.

Pinnacle on the Move

Renovations at Pinnacle's downtown Murfreesboro office have been completed, and the firm's downtown Nashville office has been both renovated and expanded.

Due to Pinnacle's phenomenal growth in the past year, its downtown Nashville office recently took an additional 400 square feet of space in the Commerce Street Center where its first office opened in October 2000. In addition to enhancing security and making room for new associates and working areas, Pinnacle was able to double the size of its signature Learning Center.

The West College St. office, located at the corner of College and Maple streets in downtown Murfreesboro, has recently been renovated to reflect the signature Pinnacle look. The office features light woods in a contemporary, open style with a water wall and TV monitors tuned to continuous news channels.
